barnbum - I think no matter what you did with this configuaration it would look gorgeous.

Like it both ways, but do have to agree with the sunflower print 'hitting' you even tho I love sunflowers.

You are very inspirational in that I have decided to start collecting my fabrics for this quilt as I want one on my bed by next spring. NOT!
Maybe the spring after. Anyway, thanks for the pics.

i could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time, but can't you keep adding until the the outside strip is the one you want? so if you wanted to end with florals you could add an outside frame of two strips of florals? would it matter if it wasn't square, if they all weren't square?

it's very beautiful.

Well, aren't you the clever one!
I have wanted to do a quilt like yours, but I didn't like all the white space (white is NOT my friend! <g>)
And, with a little waiting, you showed me how to make the flowers more bold and less light background.
I can do this!
I like what you are doing.
Thank you for sharing inspiration with us. It is all so exciting! <wave>

Wow--Karla, another stunning design. I love it with more florals! You are the queen of log cabins.

What book is it that you have laying next to the quilt with all the layout possibilities for log cabins?

Maria--that's Judy Martin's log cabin book--I never knew there were so many options to log cabin designs! I've had Elenore Burns books for years--and thought that was all there was. Then I added Judy Martin's book a few years back--and

I like the floral edging a lot. That's my preference.

bfw,

The charm and advantage of the log cabin block is it's ability to be turned on all sides to allow the overall pattern to be modified i.e. all sevens, or barn raising, or rows and furrows... hence the squares should be that, square, to allow for the rotation of the block that allows these patterns to be assembled.

Dunster... now ya done it. now i have to go find fabric and make me one like your EQ6 example. All my log cabins have been equal and square. I am going to have to do an size unequal, color unbalanced set of quilt blocks to see if I can come up with something that looks like yours.

All,
nice work, great discussion.
