Basically I made 10 hexagon mug rugs and pinned them together until I liked how they looked. I settled on using 9 and am using the extra for a mug rug.

I would have used my Hobbs fusible quilt batt but since I was out, I cut my striped fabric hexagon and used a washable glue stick to glue it to a regular thin cotton batt. I ironed it dry and then rotary cut the batt to the hexagon size. I pieced the 1 inch red border on after that like a regular hexagon border. I did not put any batt under the 1 inch strip because I figured it would turn better and the edges didn't need the bulk. I then layered right sides together with the backing fabric and stitched around the edge leaving a small opening on one straight edge for turning.
