BOTH of these silk quilts are gorgeous. Kathryn - I, too, am eager to see the quilted finished quilt!
I know your frustration. I altered some silk valances for my DDIL and about went nuts. I've told her how much I love to sew silk - NOT - and she has promised to never buy it again!

I made this with my old sewing machine and just after I finished it, it started dropping the dogs for no apparent reason - maybe the hemp got to it! I've got a new machine now and I'm NOT giving it hemp!
Thanks so much everyone - i WILL quilt it soon - promise! :D

Never say never. Once it has a very light weight interfacing on the back its about the same to work with as cotton. And the sheen just can't be beat. I don't think I would try needle turn applique but anything else is a go. If I come across a pattern I feel should be done in silk again I will do it. I have used lame' in a wall hanging doing needle turn applique , tough but not impossible. I also used lining material and am trying velvet in one. Neither is finished but they will get there. Someday. lol

I feel really bad that I've put ppl off working with silk by moaning so much! The problem was that I didn't do as Dama suggests and put the interfacing on before cutting, I'm sure if I'd done that it would have been a lot less trouble! Or if I'd used the Fray Check product that was also recommended.
Just to clarify as well, the jewel toned silks are shot silk, I think that's the word for it, it's not the fine, slippery stuff, it's thick and the weave is really obvious. The fibres are really thick, like 1/16" and that's why the fraying was such a problem.
