They are both really pretty and I'm sure that some child will like them a lot. I'm thinking of trying something like the bottom one with some scraps I've stitched onto register tape. I have several strips of them (in a roll) and have been thinking about how to use them up.

God bless you for your kindness. I bet wrapping up in a warm quilt helps heal the hurt and gives them something to hold
on to!
