They were too pretty to be discarded and so I decided to make a quilt from them. That way maybe they wouldn't get tossed out when I am gone. Sure enough.. everyone who sees this quilt wants this quilt ...another problem to solve! One of the hankies was sent to me by a pen pal I had when I was 13 or 14 years old. We lost touch many years ago. I am including a picture of the block that I put that one in. It has her embroidery that says "to Dear Ruth, Mildred". Wouldn't it be wonderful if she should happen to be a member of this board and recognize it!
I really enjoyed making this quilt and quilting it too, even though it took me quite a long time to do it. Hope you all enjoy looking. Attachment 340418Attachment 340420Attachment 340421
Oh my G-d, that is GORGEOUS! Like most on this post, I have hankies too that I have been saving and now I know what I'm doing with them. I'm not much of a purple person, but it fits so well with this quilt, I think I'm going to go out of my comfort zone and be a copy cat. Thanks so much for sharing this.

I'll tell you where the "crazy" part comes in --- I'm CRAZY about this quilt! Oh my goodness! This is just so delicate & feminine & beautiful & I WANT IT! You did a fabulous job & I can see why everybody is fighting over it. If I were in your neck of the woods, I'd be right in the middle of that scrap!

I, too, had a penpal waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. We lost touch decades ago but I still think about her & wonder how she is. Debi Haas from Oxford, OH, if you're out therem email me!

Oh, thank you! I hadn't heard "by guess & by gosh" in eons! My Mother used to say it, too. Thanks for that memory!

Amazing. What a wonderful creation from some items that were so frequently seen decades ago but are forgotten now. That is just beautiful.

Your quilt is just beautiful and a great way to use up hankies. Don't know if I have enough to make one cuz I made two sweatshirts using hankies doing the crazy quilt method.

I can't seem to find the right words and beautiful just doesn't quite make it. Your quilt is gorgeous. and what a wonderful story. I hope one day you do happen across your penpal.

How beautiful! Love the way you have put this together. This is one of the best hankie quilts I have seen....the "crazy quilt" concept really has made them shine. Thanks so much for sharing the pics. Your quilting is terrific too. I'm guessing you've sparked a whole lot of inspiration with this post
