How do you go about designing your quilts? Do you start out with a pattern and choose your fabrics, or start with fabrics and let them speak to you? It's been cold and snowy here, so...

I started out a couple of days ago, with some pieces of fabric from my stash, to try a pattern using some half-square triangles with my brand new "Square Me Up Ruler". I browsed around on this site for a little while and saw a few Carpenter's Stars that appealed to me, so I thought I'd give it a try. I started making the star with no paticular plan in mind, and just kind of went from there...

It's about 42 inches square now and I can't seem to decide what to do next, so maybe it will be a baby quilt, but I think I'd like to make it larger.

Suggestions?

I like that. I would just add a few borders and make a lapquilt. I really like that, I think I need to add this pattern to my list.

I work mine out on the EQ7 it also gives me a chance to fool with the colors before starting anything.
