    Dairy Goodness x 2 !! :)

Here's two tabletoppers that I completed recently ... note the "dairy" theme in both.
Following are some pictures that will explain why the dairy connotations.

Here's some photos of how we have put them to "work" in a display titled "The Story of Butter" at the CNE, which started last Friday and runs thru to Labour Day.

There is a large display of antiques and butter related items. Together with another person, we developed the whole display, signage and did the set-up. All of the antiques are from our two homes/farms.

If you are coming to The EX ... be sure to come and see the display in The Better Living Centre.
I'm not there every day, though I am there many of them!

Wonderful display. Love the crock churns. Makes my mouth water thinking about fresh made butter on warm homemade yeast rolls. Yummmmmmm..................................

That is awesome QuiltE. Truly it is... What an interesting display. I wish I was able to come see your display on how butter was made in person. How interesting the process is. Would be really cool to try and make some butter. BUT WHERE TO PUT THE COW???
    Have an awesome day!

Jenniky ... oh but you CAN come to see the display. Just get MrJenniky into the car and head to Ontari-ari-ari-o. Just a few hours drive away (9 hrs to Wakarusa, Ind plus to your place). We're not making any butter and the whole display is secured behind plexiglass walls. Thus why some of the photos are not the best. However, the other side of that blue wall with the signage ...... are IRL cows and calves of all ages!!! We do two milking demos per day with commentary and open question periods. So come one, come all .... it'd be a perfect wee get away for you and the Mr!

W4Me ... It all came together better than we'd expected! We are hoping that the CNE's official photographer will land some good photos with her better equipment and wide angle lens!

OKSGlad ... as spoken by a true dairy person! Would that be HITBD or Churn Dash blocks? Recognize the white fabric?

Took me a minute to figure out what the yellow topper had to do with dairy. Very clever.

One of my fav pics of son was when he was about two and churning butter.
He loved making it in an old fashioned churn.
    thanks for the memory

    Wonderful QuiltE!!

Enjoyed reading the history. And I learned something. Yes I knew what a butter churn was, but I never knew there was one called a "dash churn" ... nor did I know that the "churn dash" block was named for a butter churn.

    Thanks for sharing!
May your stitches always be straight, your seams always lie flat, and your grain never be biased against you.

QuiltE, your table toppers fit in perfectly in the display. Who still had a complete cream separater? I have never seen one that had all the pieces still intact. The display is really impressive and hopefully very informative to those who are not as familiar with life down on the farm. On another note will you been attending the IPM in Ayr this year? If so message me and we will get together. We will be camped there.

Thanks everyone ... the Fair is going well, and we've had a lot of positive feedback IRL too, about the display.

The yellow is somewhat a butter colour. The blocks were the Churn Dash pattern. So somewhat double dairy connotations there.

The black and white ... the backing fabric has different dairy pictures and words on it. The centres of the Blocks were fussy cuts from the backing fabric.

Did anyone notice the Queen display? .... off to the right you can see a poster with her on a horse. It's blown up from the little handout on the table that was from the CNE in 1952. At that time, a lifesize butter carving was created with the newly crowned Queen on her horse. We still have butter carvings happening at the EX, though none so grandiose any longer.

MamaBear ... Congratulations!! The new CNE Amabassador hails from your locale! I'll follow with an email about the other.
