No you did not, on the other thread someone said they would make a pattern. Or did I dream it?

I know this is an older question, but was my first question when I saw it. I ended up googling it and found the "prototype" thread initially posted at Disappearing Disappearing 9-Patch Prototype
which tells how to cut the 9 patch on both diagonals and then sew however you like it, then cut the resulting block on the horizontal and vertical centers to make the final block. (Patrice explains it better on the 'prototype' thread.)

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

i forgot to mention that the cuts are easier to make if you press all seams open.
the starting 9-patches were made from 5" squares.
i know the goal was to square the final blocks to 12.5" unfinished.

also, unless you are lucky enough to have all the beginning 9-patches pressed open and exactly correct, matching up all the different intersections at the second and third stage of re-assembly can be quite a challenge.
i might have had to settle for squaring to 12" unfinished because so many were oddly sized to start with. (the perils of a group quilt.) honestly can't remember.

the good news is that if you "go scrappy" the inevitable imperfections are not horribly obvious.
