Most of today's younger generation have never had to "make-do", so it doesn't occur to them that more ecconimical solutions are out there for them. Having been a "depression baby", I was raised on "waste not, want not" and it mostly still seeps into my day to day life. In the UP of MI, when I had young ones, I hung those cloth diapers out, even when the snow came. I would shovel out under the lines until the snow finally got so bad that the drifts were up to the lines, then I had to give up.. It was such fun, hanging large icicyles up as anything in your basket froze instantly once out of the house. They would more or less freeze-dry on the lines.

When my oldest daughter was a baby she had big issues with
the disposable diapers so we only used them for short outings.

We used cloth diapers when we was at home.

She was born in Nov. 1981.

Adorable quilt - I remember washing diapers in a wringer washer that had to be emptied into the bathtub and then refilled to rinse them. Makes me shudder to think about it. But that sweet baby boy made it all worthwhile and I am so proud if him now.

Cute . I started mine off with diapers but then I had gift certificate for 6 months diaper service before those disposable ones came out. Your quilt is so cute.

I've hung them on the line when it was so cold they froze and hit you in the face before you could get the clothespins on them! NOT the good old days!
