That is so cute. And it brings back memories of my 1st grade class.

I was a first grade teacher and am reminded of my little ones when I see the fabric. Although I did use those books myself as a first grader. Now that is really dating myself! The big book that the teacher used was given to me when the school was "cleaning out the book room" in 1980. The copyright date on it was 1940. That was my year of birth.

My LQS received several bolts of the D & J fabric. I don't know what I'll do with it, but I purchased 2 yards of each one. Every now and then, I take it out just to look at it. I'm having a hard time deciding to cut it up. Perhaps I could just throw it over a rod and let it hang there for me to admire.

I feel really protective over my fabric as well... It is a special memory. I salvaged several Dick and Jane books from my old school when it shut down.

I still get a stab when I look at the story where Jane gets THREE dolls for her birthday! And Father all dressed in his suit was always going to funerals (in my mind!) Cultural and socioeconomic differences transcend the generations even today!

Love the brightness and the placement of your blocks. I always see panels at the store that I admire but just not sure what to do with them.

I love your color choices M - very cute quilt. Brings up memories of learning to read in 1st grade. It's sad the kids don't get those books anymore! Is this a gift, or are you selling it?
