ok ladies and gents.. I have a hard time controlling my speed on my old machines with no speed control.. I find that when I fmq the speed just gets away from me.. My dh bought one of these dimmers locally and plugged it into my singer and what a blessing it is ! I can now safely fmq without my foot running away with the foot controlled speed.
The picture is taken next to a krups cup for coffee makers to show you the size of it...(don't ask,,dh thought it was a good comparison)..
I thought perhaps that Earl Grey Tea was a dimmer switch for the quilter (NOT! Caffeine, caffeine, get it?)

ha ha ha.
:)

Is this like a stitch regulator?? If so it's a great inexpensive alternative.

Your DH is right, a foot control, like a dimmer, is just a rheostat.

One of the many things I like about Janome machines is the fact that you can set the speed range with a dial. Both of my current machines also have a start/stop button so I can sew without wrecking my bum knee and foot at all. I got rid of my foot control altogether.
