Yes, Buster was an RR who died young from cancer. The quilt protecting her couch is appliqued with hearts and leaves on a cream background. I told her to at least turn it back side up!
I took a class on making a pattern from a photo but it was all done on the computer with expensive software. I decided I could do the same thing with plastic and a very fine sharpie tracing all the changes in color, shadows and features then enlarge and clean it up. For a black lab use different shades of black and gray and you should be OK. It's a bit of work but fun. Like making a jigsaw puzzle.

Was it Quilt university you took the computer course from? Another board member did her dogs (corgi's). Hers like yours were so beautiful. I looked them up and the course starts in Feb. but they offer oodles of classes. On the computer! Your work is so precise. I can't wait to see it finished.

Hi Applique

You may have seen my wolf which seems to be a sister for your avatar great minds think alike lol

I Love your dog idea, my Jack Russell passed away last year and would love to try this on a picture of his.

Did you use a computer program to make the pieces??

Loulou:-D

I did see yours! Nice job. The only real difference is that I enlarged the pattern so it is all satin stitched. Now I can throw it in the wash. I did not use a computer program. I traced the pattern onto plastic directly from the photo.

I think you can see the stitching here on the eye.
