Well, I saw Roolen's Star Spin some time ago, lost the link and the idea, but saw it again recently on the board. I was hooked again and determined to make one. WOW is she good, her tute makes it look like a piece of cake, but those blasted little "triangle corners" and the junction of all those pieces in the center are VERY difficult. Also, I decided on the first one to make each piece from various scraps etc which made the whole process even more difficult!!

The first one is finished, used some decorative stitches on my machine to quilt it and then "hid" my center behind an appliqued flower center. UGH

The second one isn't finished, just have the top made, center is still difficult. Roolen's work is spectacular and this doo-dad is more difficult than I thought to start with. But I have to confess, I LOVE making them.

I don't have a fancy ruler, just used what I have and found that the marks on my cutting mat were wonderfully helpful.

love them.... I love the creativness of ur " flower center" to cover what u perceived as flawed.... I think it had to it.
I bet all the meetings in the middle are a booger.....

Your Star Spin looks great. I made Roolen's Star Spin a few months ago. I really had to pay attention and I didn't have a fancy ruler either. I made a cardboard template. I intend to try my hand at making another one. My daughter stole the one I made for her house....Ha...actually she asked for it quite sweetly.

Nice practice piece, and really nice work on the next one - look great! You're the only one who will know how tough the first one went together - the final result is great :) The centre applique looks like it was planned all along.

The scrappiness of this design makes it beautiful. I love the way it flows from section to section. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful colors. The first one is my favorite. If the center doesn't sit perfectly, a button would be another great way to embellish it. Great job.
