"East Meets Midwest" an Asian scrappy quilt
I just pulled this off the frame today so it hasn't been bound yet. I posted a sneak peek here:
Ohio Star scrap quilt sneak peek - what the crazycatlady is up to
The name comes from the Asian inspired quilting and fabrics which is the East and the traditional Ohio Star block, the midwest. This is the first time I have put a pillow tuck on a quilt and it works well with this one. They are Fan blocks set on point. Also scrappy.
Specs:
Pattern: None. Made Ohio Star Blocks and matched them up with chain blocks. The blocks finished at 7 1/2", an odd size come about by my experiment in making the hourglass units from HST units. I pretty much made the quilt for the quilting idea I had.
batting: 1 layer of Hobbs Polydown
Thread: Isacord polyester in the top in a gold color and magnaglide prewound in white in the bottom.
Quilting time: 28 1/2 hours
Ruler used: Quilted Pineapple 8" arc ruler
Border stencil used: Circling cranes 9" size http://www.quiltingstencils.com/Circ...-9_p_1776.html
The quilt on a queen size bed:

The border. I figured out how to quilt the circling cranes continuous which was great. Then I had to cut my thread and tie off for the center medallion but that was also quilted continuous.

The back I used an Asian panel and more scraps to piece it up to size. I used a french braid on the sides and smaller version of the same on top and bottom but will lose about half of the bottom one. I will probably bind it in black.

And talk about lucky! Here is how little thread was left on my cone when finished up.

As always, I look forward to your comments.
