Elmer's glue stick
#11
I use elmer's glue stick all the time in my quilting for lots of different things, including some holding layers together for quilting, but I am a QAYG gal so my sandwiches are smaller. It has always worked well for me.

I use the Elmers spray glue to baste, much cheaper than the ones made specificlly for quilting and it washes out .I have used it for years and no problems quilting through it, I am a hand quilter. I have used their glue stick on small projects.

I have used glue sticks for basting quilts up through lap size. I freemotion quilt and have never had a problem with it. I do wash the quilts afterwards to remove the glue. I find the glue sticks less messy to apply than the glue.

I have started my quilting but it is going to take a while since I don't want to back track and am tying off my ends. My cable is a bit wobbly but not enough to remove and do over. I may do some stippling in the ovals but I will see how it goes. So far the glue has held well and the test was the curved crosshatching where the lines intersect. Here is where I am.

I finished quilting my runner and am very pleased with how the glue stick held the sandwich. There are no hard spots like in the liquid glue and there are no colour changes in the fabric either. I do not need to wash it like in the liquid glue. I will definately try it again in my smaller projects. I do not think I would do a large quilt with it because it would be hard to iron dry a big one. The runner turned out nice and flat with no ripples in the edge or puckers on the back. Here is a picture of the back after binding. I can't show the front as it is a gift and I don't want to spoil the surprise for my sister.
