It uses a plastic thread that it will heat up and while its in a soft pliable state it runs thru a very fine tip and layers the plastic. I have attached a video of his printer in action so you can see it. I really can't answer any questions about it, lol, totally his gig with this machine :-) The video should be a skull being printed
