Gotta give them credit to listening to their customers.

We were told that no store with fabric would lose their fabric.

...... although I have noticed Joann's and Hancocks carrying some of the same fabric for twice the price???????[/quote]

I've seen the same thing - Hobby Lobby is higher than Walmart on the same things as well. In downtown Houston TX we have a place called High Fashion Fabrics, and I swear, if they don't have it then it doesn't exist! I've seen $2.00/yard Walmart fabric there for close to $8.00! I almost fell out! I don't shop there much, sometimes I go there on a "field trip" just to see what I can find.

Hooray!! Almost 50 miles to a LQS is too much to bare. Our local Walmart in Troy, AL has been saying the fabrics are going for two years now. They even piled in closeout fabrics from other stores. I have done my best to keep them thinking that fabric is a hot seller and they don't need to phase it out. (Just ask Hubby!) Just hope they get the message from corporate. Unless gasoline prices go under $2 gal. I will continue to buy Walmart fabrics and Mainstays sheets for backings.

Just remember that fabric can be printed on different qualities of white goods. Walmart's may not have the same quality as the other stores. I bought fabric @ a Walmart like store and then saw same fabric @ a quilt store. Bought another yard to add to what I had and it was a much denser weave so was much better quality. I was making a purse so to me it did not matter as it wasn't meant to last forever.

About higher prices, prices at Wal Mart stores that kept their fabric have increased along with the market. Also, when I went to my store to work last night, I was told that they had received a box of fabric on bolts while I was gone. I am so glad to know that Wal Mart has reacted to the wishes and desires of their customers. My personal thanks to all of you who contacted them about bringing fabric back.
Thank you. I was about to post the same thing. It seems some members really like to bash WM.
It isn't just quilters who have been emailing WM about fabric. My Swedish Weaving group has also.
