She stayed with us a little longer than we thought. Here's her obituary that was in the paper today. She wrote this herself when she found out she was terminal. Also planned her own funeral every last detail.
Eldia Mae Owensby, 66, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was a resident of Indianapolis.
Eldia was born in Liberty, Ky., to Hubert and Marie Summers. She was employed as a cafeteria manager for Greenwood schools.
She married Paul Owensby in 1963. They formed the gospel group The Owensby Family with their two sons, performing throughout the United States for many years.
Eldia worshiped at First Separate Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
Eldia is survived by her loving husband, Paul; two sons, the Rev. Rick (Shannon) Owensby and Brian (Tammy) Owensby; three brothers, Travis (Lou), Dayton (Charmain) and Junior Summers; three sisters, Letia (Jack) Mason, Betty (Paul) Haney and Brenda Gater; and two precious grandsons, Zach and Garrett.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Separate Baptist Church, 25 E. Bixler St., Indianapolis. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Little and Sons Funeral Home Stop 11 Chapel, 4901 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis, and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
