Started sewing the first block last night. I still have a WHOLE lot of cutting to do but, I'll make this one first so that I find out any problem before doing all of them.
It's broken down into a 9 patch and all of the feathers are attached to the corner squares and side triangles first. There is a blue triangle sewed to each of the 4 corners of the center square (a snowball) and the other 4 blue triangles are sewn to one side of 4 star points.
I sewed a scant 1/4 on the feathers but when I went to sew it onto the square I found that my scant was too small, or too big, however you look at it. I sewed the seams in the feathers again closer to 1/4" and that fit good.

It's slow going checking and re-checking every part I sew together. I don't want to get done and then notice that I put a row of feathers the wrong way!
It uses partial seams on the triangle blocks. I've never done that before but it will probably help in the end. I've taken out one seam and re-done it. When sewing the first row of feathers onto the background triangle there is no reference point of where it needs to end up. When I went to pin the star point to it, the row of feathers was too long because of the scant 1/4" seam that I did on the first few. I re-sewed the feather seams at 1/4" exactly and the point fit. On the rest I am going to sew it to the point first, then sew it to the triangle.
I wonder if I can even get one star done this weekend. Hopefully it will go faster as I do more of them.
