This started as a Sudoku quilt but I added a row to make it longer so now it's a basic nine-patch. It is tied because hand-quilting makes me want to throw myself under a bus:

I love the color of the last one!
Sometimes on patchy quilts, tying seems to make it look better, to me. You can also try tying in the corners so that the squares stay blank, that's what I do. I very seldom tie in the middle of a square.

I mainly do the corners only because I use ALOT of fabric that has prints on it. I don't like taking away from the print/picture
