i sat and figured out how to do the second one, it's a nine patch, with two being hst's! great. I can do that. i saw two others here too that i think i can do. i'll put the print outs with a couple of others i got for future reference.

I love them both. The off center placement of the split nine patch is great. Just did one centered - might have to try it your way too!

The 2nd one is from the McCall's Quilting magazine-May/June 2010 issue, it is called Paradigm Shift. It is very easy to make, I'm making one for my oldest daughter now, with purple.

It is really not a 9 patch. You use 2 strips 3 1/2 by 9 1/2 inch each of the black and white, 2 squares 3 1/2 inch of the black and white, 2 squares 3 1/2 inch of what every color you want in the center.
Sew the blocks white blocks together with the color in the center, do the same for the black. Put them on top of each other, with long seam opposite directions. Sew 1/4 seam on each side, cut in center then you have 2 blocks, half black/half white with color center.
Easier then a 9 patch with less sewing. Hope this helps everyone.
