I had not been on the message board in ages and just saw this question. No there are no instructions in the book. You figure out how to do each block as you come to it. A lot of people paper piece a good percentage of the blocks. I hand pieced all of the blocks or needle turn applique or reverse applique. You use whatever method you are comfortable with. Good luck on your quilt.

this is beautiful :!: I admire everyone who can stick with this project. I just love seeing everyone's blocks. It gives me hope that I can start my DJ next year. Thanks for sharing.

yes In my opinion the second was easier and actually took less time to make even though I hand pieced that one too. The second one I think took about 70 hours less time - I have that stuff written down somewhere! I have links on my blog to both quilts.
