I never hand sew bindings anymore. I now spend that time making quilts.
ive tried a few times to machine stitch my binding both sides, have never been happy with the result. Felt like I ruined a quilt I put lots of work into- took my quilt from a wonderful finish to a walmart finish. I wish I could figure out how to do it so it looks nice & neat. My sister uses a decorative stitch on hers but I've not been happy with that either. Maybe I'm just hyper- critical of mine. Think I will make a few placemat sets & do some practicing.
Usually hand stitching isn't too bad but two king sized just a couple weeks apart was difficult.

Both are amazing! As for machine bindings, lately, I have been attaching my bindings first to the back and then top stitching on the front. However, with quilts as beautiful as yours, I would do the bindings the conventional way.

Absolutely beautiful! I see you're from Northern Michigan, one of my very favorite places! We have a cottage in Petoskey and go as often as we can get away.

Both of your quilts are absolutely beautiful. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite.
I use the flange binding on all of my quilts now. It is all machine sewed, and I think it even adds a design detail. I have also heard it called magic binding. It took me a couple of quilts to really get comfortable with it, but now I wonder why I ever did bindings any other way.
