    I did each square and then connected them with a technique that I don't know the name of. I used a strip of the top fabric and a strip of the bottom fabric. Then I connected the squares together, which ends up with the squares being butted up against each other under the fabric strips. Perhaps someone here knows the name of this technique.

    I did machine applique, using satin stitch. I got a lot better at it as I went along.

    As another poster said, "better done the perfect" was kinda my feeling , too. My quilting friends had never seen a Hawaiian quilt done on machine, so they were interested in how it turned out, too.

    This is a spectacular quilt. Personally, I love lots of different colors in quilts but this one really got me. Simply lovely!

    Your technique sounds like Georgia Bonsteel's method. Lap quilting was quilting by hand individudal squares then piecing together such as you did. You just did it differently. Great!
