SuziSew, This was an original pattern. My friend used the friendship star block and found a secondary block in a magazine to give the lattice look. I am sorry but I do not know which magazine it is in. I think the second block is unusual.

That HST with the red tips looks challenging. It is a beautiful technique whatever it's called. It sure sets off the friendship star. What a unique quilt. Good start for the new year.

For those who are wondering. Those red tips are made by adding a triangle to one corner of a rectangle. They are not made with a HST unit.
