Hi all, I am overwhelmed by your kind words. Thank you!
The size is 36x36
I don't think it is difficult, rather tideous at times. Lots of mistakes were made that I corrected. :-) When you get to the small work, like the porch poles...that can take some time, but fun still. you can satin stitch those. For the best results I used sukly thread. has a shine to it that I like.
This technique was "replique". really neat. you sew with your feed dogs down the whole time. you sew directly on the paper (tracing from a picture you pick and blow up). You will start with what is furthest away, for example the sky. I love it because your sewing at this point does not have to be perfect. gonna be covered up later. right up my ally. ;-) and as you go, you just look at the picture and decide what is next, and layering if you will. really fun! Like I have said, the most important thing here is to not give up when you think it looks bad. I can not tell you how many times my first landscape quilt looked bad. even my family laughed and said, " you are gonna make your quilt look like that picture"? ha! keep going and keep fixing the mistakes. I never imagined it would turn out this good considering all the mistakes I made. I just smiled at my family. I was new at free motion quiliting at the time. so I had to practice each style before I moved on in the end. All the time I was looking for ideas on the computer when I did not know what to do. (free motion designs). took me about 6 months to complete this one. Glad I hung in there and finished. :-) again, teaches you perserverence. in the end, my reward was great!
I am doing my 2nd landscape for those of you who want to follow along. It is posted some where here in pictures. I am posting them by number. I wish there was a way I could keep them together. any thoughts? I am a newbie here and do not know what I am doing.
When I was doing my first, I had wished that someone would post progress pictures so that I could see them. That is why I am posting progress pictures with this next quilt. You will see at times how bad it looks, or awkard and how I fix it or just go with it and cross my fingers and pray. :-) I think it is important for others to see the process. Sometimes my mistakes turn into great things...like a shadow that looked like I meant it to happen.
I am just now starting my cabin and I think it is gonna be ok. I had mentioned in another post that I was worried that my cabin would not be to scale. I did not follow the picture exactly this time. My trees were not coming out, so I had to do it another way. Problem is I have no scale to follow. but I think it will be ok. Also, mistake already....tree showing behind my light house fabric. I don't think of those things. I can't rip through the paper just yet because I have not done my windows...so I am agian, crossing my fingers and hoping that my window material hides the shadows of my trees. I run into these problems all the time. Hey, but you never know, shadow might be a good thing when it is all done. You just never know what will happen. why it is so fun! scary too.
I will be posting a picture of my cabin soon in it's raw form...very raw form..keep a look out! :-)
Happy Quilting!!
