I wouldn't call it a piece of art, it's actually protecting the back which I like to call 'the Winter side'. I'll post a pic with a corner flipped over, for the whole 'Summer side" you'll have to wait till summer(fall in the U.S.) I'll post pic then, as I want to make a topper for that side as well.Oops got one side ways, don't know how to fix that yet, sorry :oops:

yes, they are. I used freezer paper templates in a variety of sizes from 1.5" to 3.5" and appliquéd them that way. I later reused the templates to quilt around.

The quilt inspector is very thorough, I'm sure he's checking for threads I've missed. The quilt peeking out on the side is an Exploding star, i still have to move the sleeve on the back, as it is not hanging the way i like it.
