Default First Two Blocks for My Nancy Zieman FQ Block of the Month Quilt

I'm doing the FQ mystery quilt featured on Nancy Zieman's blog. All of these will be 15" square blocks.

Some of you might remember that I had posted a couple of weeks ago, trying to use a FQ stack I had in my stash that was mostly floral, but I was having difficulty figuring out the values of the fabrics. Well, I tossed that stack aside and decided to do the blocks in mostly black, white and grey, with some small color accents. (I plan to use the cute kitty fabric in the center of each block.)

The first block is January. That one was very challenging for me and in fact, I remade the nine patches from different fabrics because I didn't like my first attempt (it was way too busy). The February block was so much easier! I am using Nancy Zieman's No-Hassle Triangle Gauge and so far it's working very well.

Picking fabrics for these mystery blocks is reminding me how much I like kits, where all the fabric is chosen for me! Hopefully I will get better and not have to agonize over every fabric choice for the future blocks!

Info is at http://www.nancyzieman.com/blog/.

Well done. BTW, a quick way to check on value is to copy the fabrics in black and white. Generally, the value differences are then obvious.

I like your fabric choices. They work well with the patterns for the squares. Stick with the plan and you will have a great quilt.
