I am in the middle of quilting this flag quilt. There is a border on it but this picture was taken before that was put on.

I was thinking of doing a cloud type design in the sky blue area. Any suggestions/pictures on how I could accomplish that?

maybe a swirly design to simulate wind in the stripes?
Individual clouds in the blue, or you could connect them with loops or winding lines :D:D:D

I didn't realize Day Styles has something similar.

I wonder if I did this design, leaving out the center lines, that it would look like clouds. Off to practice.

It came out of a book I have.

http://www.amazon.com/Show-Me-How-Ma.../dp/1571201289

I love this book. It has really helped improved my FMQ not only with the how to side but just ideas.

Honestly, you don't need a pattern. Make the flag. Add the pale blue sky to the top and bottom.

Then cut it up into even vertical strips. (And one of my strips was smaller than the rest because I messed with the original pattern a bit.) Take the strips and arrange them up and down to put your flag into motion.

Once you have it as you want, sew the strips together. Then cut the top and bottom to make them even with the shortest strips.

The original pattern has you put pale blue on all 4 sides and then a patchwork of red, white and blue squares border.

I ended up doing stars as they should be on the flag, wavy lines on the red and white, clouds in the pale blue and swirls on the border. I also SITD along the flag and the border. And I finished it off my own way.

Really, I did this quilt in two days from start to this. It is very simple but looks so complex.

I'm not sure as I haven't done a Bargello yet. It is on my short to do list. :)

It does kind of look like one. I had a quilt friend ask me the same question.
