    Helen, you should at least check out the ruler. You can use strips of any width it it has lines on it to show you where to cut, or you can use scraps of any size and it will show you where to cut. I don't remember where I bought mine but I love it. It's called the Log Cabin Trim Tool Two by Omni Grid.
