I did try this for some practicing on a design for my background. I discovered quickly that the cord to my foot control isn't long enough to reach from the side (now the back of the machine), to the floor. I just took a covered box of fabric and stuck under the foot. It's a bit high w/ one foot on the box and the other on the floor, but I can get used to it, I think. The process worked great, and I'm wondering why I didn't think of this before.

Never would have thought of the adhesive vinyl and the form panels. Great idea and so much easier and adjustable when you want to use the machine for other sewing. Have been trying to talk myself into purchasing the teflon sheet. Now won't have to and can use that money for other projects.
Thanks so much for sharing. The quilters on this board are so full of very helpful information.

i am a little confused does the needle still sew the same as if you were sitting in front of the machine or is there a way to turn that also?

This only works for free motion stitching, w/ the feed dogs down.

Newbie1001, have you noticed how many times someone has referred back to your design for turning the machine facing you when you free motion quilt? I wanted to thank you again for sharing this with us.
Regards, Dorothy

Was what you used made by Con-Tact brand? So it's clear Contact Covering?

I'd like to try this setup soon. What did you use to cut the insulation board?
Has anyone new tried this?
I am just intrigued by this setup.
Thanks!

I think you'd have more room to quilt a bigger area before having to mess around and rewind the quilt...KWIM?
