That is beautiful! In my French Braid Quilts book, most of the center squares are 8-3/8". Based on the experience from the French Braids that I have done, I don't see any reason why you couldn't start with an 8" or 8-1/2" square and work out from that. You should be able to do any style of block. I agree that the one in the pic here looks like a snowflake...very pretty!

What book do you use? Your avatar is beautiful. Would like a get a book that has proven to be helpful. The pattern with the star shown is beautiful. Thanks BrendaK
