Yes, paper pieced. Here's a link to where I posted it. Near the end of the comments I posted the link to the pattern. Thank you!

Would this be safe to wash later, or should I do some kind of satin stitch around it so that it is washable? Thanks

I have never tried washing quilts with fusible. I do not know how strong the bond is. These were designed as wall hangings, so they could just be damp cloth washed.

Doing satin stitching would be great to secure it, but I wanted something fairly quick to do, and thought it would be very time consuming to do the quilting.

Another option may be to all over stipple or something like that to help secure the edges.

Please, anyone that makes a quilt using this technique, be sure to post it, I would love to see how the instructions work for everyone. And, then I know my idea is desirable - a goal for anyone who is trying to "teach" - right?

That gives new meaning to the word AMAZING. You did a wonderful job. Granted, you have a beautiful child and a beautiful picture of that child to start with but to be able to capture that image. . . . fantastic!!!!!

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. This is so easy and fun to do.

Tonight I will be finishing up TWO of these Stained Glass Portraits that I am sending to a wife and a grown daughter of a friend who recently died. I do this instead of a sympathy card. I am making it about the size of a fat quarter - just a close up of his face.
