so, everyone offered words of advice fixing grandma's bouquet. i re-did all of the flowers...freshened the bouquet...then placed a piece of tule over the center piece and re-quilted it...it turned out great and i believe it will hold up to her scootching around on it
thanks for all the help :-D

Beautiful - she will truly love it! Sometimes it is hard to think of the perfect gift for someone of that age, but you have hit the jackpot on ideas.

Here is a quilt I incorporated a ladies hanky in. Someone was asking, I have learned a lot about flower arranging since this quilt! this one was a ( winging it) quilt. Fun to look back & see how you have changed/ grown over the years.

This picture is from a number of years ago, someone had asked to see it so I searched it back up, grandma did love this quilt for the years she had it. She passed away right after Christmas. She was my Hubby's grandmother, and my grandmother's best friend. My g.m.passed away years ago, the hanky was hers, so it meant all that much more to her to have the quilt from me with the piece of her best friend from much younger days

What a beautiful thing you did. The handkerchief appears to have what my Mother used to edge her
handkerchief's with called hairpin lace, I think. Thank you for re-posting this picture.
It is wonderful to preserve special treasures such as this. You did a great job.

A really quaint and novel idea to use the handkerchief as a little tablecloth below the vase of flowers. A lovely gesture which I'm sure GM will love and cherish the memories it contains.
Many ideas and desires but not enough hours in a day - I love quilting
