    "Groundhog Baby" quilt

My friend's newest grandchild is due on February 2nd and is being called the "Groundhog Baby" in their family. She asked me to make a quilt based on Margaret Rolfe's foundation pieced animal designs, but with a groundhog as the central creature. I modified several patterns (I changed a zebra into a deer, a dog into a fox and put the owl into a tree) and came up with the central groundhog on my own. Most of the critters are made of cotton fabric, but the groundhog is fleece and the bear is flannel. The whole quilt is 39" square.

Cute quilt!! I hope the baby come Feb 1 or 3 instead of Ground Hog's day. My dad's older sister was born on Ground Hog's day and will be 86. My dad (being the bratty little brother at 83) calls her every year and sings "Happy Birthday, Ground Hog" to her. He still teases her.....

My husband was a groundhog day baby, and it has honestly never occurred to me to call him "groundhog"...until now.

Love the bratty (83-year-old) younger brother!

    Thanks for the compliments!

I ran into the future grandfather of the Groundhog Baby today and he was very pleased with this quilt (my first feedback from my friend's family), so this is definitely a commission that succeeded! Yay!
