Agave Garden, the big reveal
I posted a sneak peek here:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...k-t269398.html
I just finished it up today. Now all that is left to do is the binding. This is a Judy Niemeyer pattern called Agave Garden. I changed the pattern a bit. I left off the applique and enlarged the border so the finished quilt measures 80 x 80 (as opposed to 70 x 70). I wanted lots of space to do some knock out quilting.
Techy stuff, I used Filtec Essence, a monofiliment nylon, to do all the ditching. All the decorative quilting is done with Filtec Glide threads except the humming birds which are King Tut. I used magnaglide prewounds in the bobbin. I double batted it but it was a waste of batting. I usually put the denser batting on bottom and the loftier on top, this quilt I switched because I was worried about the wool bearding through on all that black so I did Hobbs 80/20 in black on top and wool on bottom. By putting the denser batting on top I negated the effect I usually get with two bats so the quilting doesn't have the definition I normally like. We learn with every quilt and that was a good lesson. Now all I have left to do is block it and bind it.
Here is the quilt unquilted

And here it is all done taken at close to the same angle

Some other shots including a couple of close ups

A penny to show how little those pebbles are

All the black on black, thought I would go blind! I would have to charge a lot to do this again for a client quilt. As this one is my own I splurged. But at times I could not see a darn thing!

Hummingbirds

And a couple of gratuitous back shots

Wow what a beautiful job. That's really fantastic quilting. I'm glad your keeping it for yourself. Thank for sharing and letting me feast my eyes.

Jane: I am just blown away by all the new design elements you were able to add with quilting. Wow. I can only imagine how difficult it was to do such detailed work on black with black thread. I did a simple meander on a black background one time and it was awful...............I couldn't see where the heck I had sewn and where I was going next. It was a nightmare..............never again. You never disappoint and I always look forward to your artistry on fabric.

OMG I'm dumbfounded with all of the quilting! Awesome and every adjective I can think of! Don't think anything of it when you get many more looks than comments; I will be coming back for many, many times as I'm sure others will as well.
