Two is very pretty but makes the quilt directional. I like three the best, no "top" or 'bottom". Pretty from all sides.

I like no 1 or no 3 because you can enjoy the hearts from both directions I have a sampler quilt on my bed right now and I turn it from this weeks top to bottom every time I change linens. so I get to enjoy the whole quilt
