What a great story and a beautiful quilt! Plus, I believe red is a special color in China, representing good fortune or celebration. Perfect!

Thank you. It is the jewel box block with sashings separating them to make the quilt larger and add a little different look than you get with the blocks side by side. Beginner friendly since its half square triangles and four patches.

Thank you. And thank for the info. I will have to tell my friend about that. That’s just adds to the story. So cool.

Thank you. Another way I have hidden the date into a quilt is with the thread colors and quilting. I sewed lines up vertically on the quilt (no necessarily straight line just vertical) using the different colors of thread to reorient the date. A little way to hide it in there but still know it’s there. I plan to use that one again someday.

Thanks. He’s always by my side and in the middle of a project if he has his way. Such a big helper.

Thanks. I bought that fabric by the bolt and it worked great for this project. It’s one of those fabrics I hated to use from my stash because I love it but than that asks the question, if you aren’t going to use within why’d you buy it? lol. I broke, some got used.

She had such a fun time learning the process of quilting and actually using my machine and being apart of the process. Her daughter was upset she didn’t get to come so I told her if she has the patience maybe would work on a small one together. We could end up with two new quilters by the time it’s all said and done.
