This is what I've been laboring on for the past four months. A little here and a little there. Sometimes, it got the best of me, but I think I've semi-tamed the beast. There have been so many OBW, kaleidscope, and 3D quilts in the shows I have attended and they really caught my eye. I didn't want to invest too much money in this, just in case I goofed. I found my focus fabric at Joann's and got the book at a quilt store. And I needed that book! Even with it, I managed to mess up some cubes.
I think I like this layout, but will leave it on the design wall for several days. I may decide something needs to be changed. There will be a solid black inner border, then the focus fabric for the outer border. I may use the black and gold between the two borders, but have not decided yet. I may also put some hexagons in the black border. There are some pictures in the book with that done and it really is neat. Whatever fabric is left after the top is done will be used as backing.
Oh, and that design wall? I made it last week from two sheets of styrofoam type stuff found in home improvement stores. I had to get them cut to fit in the car. At home, I used Gorilla Tape to put them back together to a 6' x 6' size. I used a big roll of that Gorilla Tape! I've got quilt batting covering it and that is taped to the back. It is attached to the top with heavy double sided tape. And there is a window behind it.
Thanks for looking.

I'm gonna be a "wet blanket" and say....
I like these quilts better without the cubes. I don't get the purpose of them at all. But that's just my stupid opinion!! :-) I like the colors in yours. Very nice.

Looks fantastic....I am seriously going to do one of these one day. Maybe without the cubes for mine, but I have a step-son who is really keen on the geometry of the whole thing, he is definitely getting the cubes.
I am looking for a user friendly book....which one did you use, and would you recommend it?
