There is a thread in the Main section about quilt backs. How much to pay for fabric, etc. I want to see some imaginative backs. Mine are pretty much just some fabric that I think will match pretty well.

    Let me see your backs.

Here is one of my latest. I usually use one piece that "sorta" matches the front. But I wanted this one to be a little more special.

    My first pieced back.

Had leftover blocks so decided to piece the back.

The center of my pieced back.

I embroidered the quilt label in the center on my embroidery machine.

    Awesome!

I'm about to piece my first backing today, for a quilt I've made. I usually use one piece of fabric too, but for this one I'm using the left over fabric from the front, and a matching plain cotton, and will piece a back.

Love this topic. I have never pieced a back, always used muslin, so this is something I want to try.

This is the coolest back I have made so far. The cherry on the back is the one from the front blocks, but I made it HUGE. This quilt is queen size.

(And, for the folks that have seen it while it was in progress, no, it's not quilted yet.)

This is a back that was provided by the customer. She used a flannel sheet.

My backs are usually leftovers from the front; with some added fabric if there isn't enough leftovers.

So many backs are beautiful enough to be fronts!

Shelley, that back is exquisite! I don't understand, though. Did the customer provide it quilted that way?

As a handquilter I try not to have to piece the back. It is much more difficult to quilt through if both the front and back have lots of seams. I like to leave it a solid color because then the quilting really shows up well.

I love the backs on these! Mine are so boring, they're usually just solid color's that co-ordinate with the top! I wish I were creative enough to make a back as pretty as the front!

Here is the back of one of mine, I usually piece the back with leftovers from the front. For this one I doubled the size of one of the blocks for the back.

Yup, me too. It can be hard enough handquilting through front seams and I know I alway curse the seam in the back because I have never used extra wide fabric so always end up with at least one. So I have never pieced a back. I do have one WIP that I did do some very simple piecing that is destined for the lap hoop. I guess I will find out how much I regret that decision when I start quilting it.

Here are a couple of my most recent backs. I love interesting backs. These two were mostly just scrapes from the tops and I was really sweating it trying to get enough to make backs for these two.

Oops, don't know what happened there, but that second pic didn't come through right. Edit wouldn't let me attach, so I'll try reposting it.

Sorry, that didn't seem to work either.

when I tried the download button on the bottom of the pic it came out okay.........????????? don't know why it looks goofy here

Wow..I hope you all don't think I am crazy, but I promise "when I posted these earlier- that 2nd picture wouldn't come through correctly". It appears okay now. Maybe it was just my computer.

This is the only pieced back that I have done.

Some of the backs that were posted look like they should be the front!!
