I goofed and shared this pattern, along with a few others, for Shawn to pick from. I've been wanting to try out this pattern and Shawn picked it. Wouldn't you know?!! It is for his eleventh birthday, his "big boy" quilt. He asked his mom, " Can Grandma really make that?" now I have to prove that I can indeed make it.
It will be stunning!

It's time to make my fourth grandchild's "big" quilt. Shawn asked for the "Illusions" pattern by Carol Bryer Fallert. If you've not visited her website, go look. Here is the quilt I'm making for Shawn.

Pretty snazzy, huh? I just hope I can make mine look half as good as hers.
I started out making two prototypes. The green one was first. Too small! SO I increased the size of the block. Much better! I learned that prints don't really work with this pattern when I made prototype number two!
The third picture are the first two blocks I've made so far for Shawn's "TGIQ" (The Great Illusion Quilt). I think I'm going to have to make a dozen of these. Egads! What did that grandson of mine get me into?
Okay! Now to see if I can attach some photos. I've not posted any pics for awhile. Wish me luck!

Caryl Fallert doesn't just sit down and sew strips together for her 10k+ quilts.
This woman is the consummate artist in all steps of her processes. She dyes her own fabrics. She designs her own quilts in a sophisticated design program on the computer (has for YEARS!). She often works on the floor (that alone is impressive to me, mobility limited as I am), using projection equipment, paint, thread work, applique, as well as intricate piecing.
She has taught and published for decades, impacting the quilting world mightily, and is highly respected nationally and internationally. Her list of awards is so extensive! Many corporations have bought and displayed her art in their facilities.
She 'lately' lost her husband, changed her life in order to move to Paducah, and has become a major representative of the city and the AQS show there every year. Ask an established appraiser about the details they look for when appraising a 'fabulous' quilt and you'll find that Caryl has them all!
(Can you tell I adore her?!)
The quilts you've made do her proud, they're wonderful!
