Wow. such vision, and recycling to boot, I saw a video a while back, in which a quilt 'artist' was literally ripping pieces out of a magazine and stitching it into a wall hanging, using free motion embroidery - I can't remember the site...but it was very inspirational!!! :D

That's proof that someone's trash is someone else's art treasure!

Are those used coffee filters??

I downloaded and looked closely and they used metalic thread to quilt them down.

It's a beautiful piece of work and very, very clever.

This was a quilt submitted to the Mid=Atlantic Quilt Festival in
Hampton, VA in Feb. of this year. I took pics of this because
the person who made it, indeed made it out of used coffee filters.
It was quilted with gold metalic thread and quite glittered in the
light. It was stitched to a black background which was quilted in
waves as thou the fish was swimming. It was totally awesome.
I can't post so I send the pics to Moonpi who was very gracious
and posted them for me. I'm glad everyone enjoyed them.
    Thanks again to Moonpi

Now it has sort of got me thinking....you could try using food dyes, or fabrics dyes in fact anything, to make lots of different colours....now imagine what you could do with that!! Flowers, fish, geometrics wow!! Think I will head off down to the store to get some more filter papers....tee hee!!!!

I keep coming back to look at this, it always amazes me and leaves me smiling when I see someone take something so ordinarily thrown away and make a piece of art out of it :D :D :D

Why not use the used ones? If you let them dry initially and then rinse them and dry them again they should be fine. The creative soul in me sees the possibilities. And if you used some food color dye as someone suggested or fabric dye even during the second drying phase this could get really really interesting! =) As far as washing it..I would say no. Its obvious to me that its an art piece. I would love to see it in person to awe over it and look at its every detail. =)
