    Journey to Paducah, finished!

It's my first King sized quilt. 47 days to complete from my stash in batiks and neutral batiks. I used quilt as you go on my Janome with a 7" throat. The only things I purchased was Thermore batting and a spool of thread. I posted it on my Facebook page but I know only quilters will understand the accomplished feeling. Done. No idea why it is upside down.

Wohoo. The checked border / sashing really sets it apart. Kudos for a job well done.

That's a beauty! When I finish my blocks for my King quilt I am going to try the quilt as you go method for the first time. Home mine turns out as good as yours. I love it!

Gorgeous! And I like you did it with white instead of the black. Nice to be different!

Should I share with you how far behind I am? I don't even have all the blocks downloaded yet. About 2/3 of them.....and NONE have been started. LMAO.....You, dear one, are an over achiever!

    Stunning....seriously!

That looks really good. I collected all the patterns. Seeing yours finished makes me wish I had one one each day. And I really like the lighter background.

What a stunning quilt that is! I do love it. Did you make it for yourself? I'd have a hard time parting with it...
A quilt is like a good life. It's full of mistakes, but, in the end, it looks pretty good.

Ditto!! Lol.... I think I only downloaded 15 of them so far. Oh well..

toverly....that is an amazing accomplishment. You were so disciplined and focused. I love the white better instead of the featured black on AQS. So far from the pictures I've seen of others, I like yours the best. Well done...

Very nice. I've looked at all those blocks on the AQS website. Just love them with the white background.

I LOVE your quilt! I understand QAYG and have done many but not this large. I am wondering how you finished the back. I don't see sashing strips on the front. Are there hand sewn strips on the back? You do such lovely work, it never hurts to ask an expert how she did this. Any info you can share would be appreciated. Thank you for showing your beauty!

Thank y'all for all the compliments on the quilt. It looks like I need to fluff my pillows in the photos. It's hard to photograph a quilt this large. It was my first time to try this way to QAYG. The best way I can describe it is it is done like binding. The front of the quilt is sashed the usual way, I have a 1/2 inch of batting all around each square. As I sewed one side of the sashing, I also sewed the raw edge of a double binding strip on the back. Next, I matched and sewed the other side of the sashing, making the front look normal. Then I used a fabric folding pen to fold and press the back sash across the back. I top stitched the sashing, which also stitched down the back. It makes the sashing area thicker but that is why I used thin Thermore instead of cotton. I suggest anyone who wants to try it to go to you tube and look up "How to join QAYG blocks" not just QAYG blocks. I hand stitched any areas with a flap or if I missed entirely.
