You did a very nice job and I'm sure your recipients will love them. Just a thought on figuring the colors.... I almost always draw a pattern on graph paper and copy it a couple of times so that I can play with colored pencils and figure out where I want things to go before I start sewing. I guess I just really like graph paper and coloring in the lines! (Though I do think outside the box too.) If something doesn't work for you - you can always start over without spending time with the ripper.
