Doesn't look like cheater cloth, but even if it was it would be considered a quilt if something was done to fasten the layers together. I didn't sound like anything was going to be done to fasten the pieced top to the flannel and backing. I believe that is the criteria in order to be considered a "quilt" as opposed to a bed cover. I am not as informed as I could be about the "summer quilts" that used to be made "back in the olden days" but I think that they were just a pieced top and a backing - not sure if they tied them or what.

Just got this one spread out on floor to pin and trim! Nothing fancy, no batting, flannel in middle, mostly Wal-mart fabrics, no long arm quilting. Some don't consider this a quilt, so call it what you want, she wants to use it as a bedspread for her twin bed.
