Last year I asked for assistance in naming my marine quilt for my scuba-diving son. I received loads of wonderful names and after consulting with DH we chose "Carpe Diem - Seas the Day", which was suggested by teacherbailey.

Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful input. I had difficulty narrowing it down to about eight and then gave the final choice to DH.

    Here's a couple of pics -

That is not a quilt, that is a master work of art!

What creativity and skill you have shown, and the result is stunning. Thank you for sharing.

A lot of love went into that quilt. As others have said, it's a masterpiece.

Thanks for your kind comments everyone.

I had intended this quilt to be a Christmas gift for DS but life got in the way. It is now for his birthday, WHICH IS TODAY!!!

He does not know I have made this for him so I have my fingers crossed that he will like it. Both he and his wife are keen on scuba-diving and also have a large marine fish/corals tank in their home.

Both our kids with partners will be here for lunch (its 9am Sunday morning here) so I am anxiously waiting to see his reaction.

bamamama - the patterns were from piecebynumber.com (Schools of Scrappy Fish).

I don't think you have to be concerned at all about him loving it. Wow, it's a terrific quilt & such thought & artistry went into making it. Love your play on "carpe diem".

That is just too clever. I love your quilt and the fact that you included some photos. He will love it I'm sure.

Thanks, but the credit for the name must go to teacherbailey who suggested it when I asked for ideas last year.

WOW! I'm honored to have "my" name chosen. It's a beautiful quilt and if you ever tell him the story of how it got its name, please add in my birthday wishes and tell him that while I don't scuba, I do love to snorkel. If he's ever in the US during Nov-Jan, he needs to snorkel with the Manatees in Florida, their winter habitat. It's a most amazing experience!

teacherbailey -I will pass that info on to him along with your birthday wishes.

It's 5 p.m. here now and the family have just left. We have eaten and chatted the afternoon away and had a very relaxing and enjoyable time.

He absolutely loved his quilt, as did his wife. They are expecting their first baby in July (our first grand) and asked if a baby quilt was next on my agenda.

Thanks again for all the lovely comments.

The quilt was fun to do using the paper pieced fish and the photos - like putting a jigsaw puzzle together, deciding where everything went.

I had loads of suggestions for the name and I loved the play on carpe diem - seize (seas) the day. When I found that photo of the octopus I thought he also went in with the play on "seize" so couldn't resist using him for the label.
