Mariner's compass sneak peek on my LA

This quilt was made by another QB member. Some of you may recognize it. The quilt is beyond breathtaking. I don't think I have enough adjectives for it. Exquisite, stunning, jaw droppingly gorgeous, droolworthy, they all apply but none seem adequate. I am humbled and honored that I was entrusted to longarm it and I can only hope I do justice to this work of art. In my mind the impeccable piecing and the the blocks needed to be ditched, every seam. Hoo boy, that is a lot of ditching. I am only half way done with the ditch work and then I will go back and do the detail work. But on the first row, I couldn't wait to try out the idea I came up with for the compass blocks and border motifs. So I completed one row and the top border before going on to finish the ditching. Once done I will go back and do the ruler work and FMQ. I am thinking the LC blocks will look best just left ditched. Then the gorgeous fabric will be the star.

Here is what I have to share so far. I will definitely post pics when I am done along with tech details.

Your quilting is beautiful beyond words. This quilt is so magnificent: Colors, patterns, piecing, quilting, oh, my goodness. I could only do something like this in my dreams. So special, I am speechless!! Thank you for showing us how a "master" works.

Two layers of batting. On the bottom a black Hobbs 80/20 blend because the backing is a deep navy and black print. On top of the 80/20 is Hobbs Poly down

Beautiful work from both of you!
May your stitches always be straight, your seams always lie flat, and your grain never be biased against you.

You are correct in that there are no words to really describe this quilt. Well the same goes for your quilting. I'll just say, STUNNING. BrendaK

No, it is mostly ruler work. The curved cross hatch and all the ditch work I use rulers. Border, I drew the floral motifs and transferred them to the quilt with chalk transfer paper (saral type in white). The feather spine, I have a flexible ruler so I marked that. The feather plumes and the swirly bits behind the compasses are free hand with no marking.

I agree with you, there isn't an adequate adjective to discribe the beauty of this top. And it's going to be even harder to find one when you have finished quilting it. Both you and the quilter have producded one of the most beautiful quilts I've seen.
