Due to schedules, travel, and life in general, we were not able to exchange Christmas gifts with our friends until Memorial Day. That worked out well for us since their 5-year-old son is one of our honorary nephews and received a quilt for Christmas! We finished it Saturday.

We also made a pillow case, and tucked the quilt into it, along with a new pillow. Our idea was that this would be a drag-around quilt that he would use watching TV or camping in the backyard. When he opened it, he draped it over his shoulder and said "Kim, take a picture!" When the picture was made he raced upstairs to his room, threw the pillows and bedspread off the bed "Mom, I don't need THIS anymore", and proceeded to put the new quilt and pillow on his bed. He is still in a toddler bed, so it was a good fit. He has decided that our quilt is his new bedspread. Then he said "Now I need to try it out," jumped into the bed, and pulled the cover up to his chin.

It was such an awesome feeling seeing a 5-year-old really appreciate our handiwork and wanting to use it. It makes the HUGE learning curve we have been on worthwhile.

    Thanks,

    Darren

Totally awesome! Children are brutally honest and so it is absolutely fantastic that he is so excited with his new treasure! Congrats!

Could it get any better? Such a heart warming story! The quilt is great and I love the fruit fabric (apples?) on the back.

Well, you certainly know that your quilt is being appreciated. Sometimes children behave so much better than adults. (I am thinking back to threads were we have discussed our hard work not being truly appreciated). Not the case this time!!!

You certainly brightened his day and in turn brightened mine and others.

That quilt will definitely be used! Not just thrown on the side.

    Great job! Thanks for sharing!

Thats what it is all about, the rare person that makes you feel good all over when they truely appreciate your work! I think we are all smiling about this one.

How very, very sweet. It is a treasure to for you to see unfold and one for him to remember always from his "auntie".

The look on his face is too precious for words. You can see he really loves his quilt. Very nice for a boys room.
