An elderly gentleman who lives in my community approached me with this proposition. He had his wife's sewing machine that she had bought and used since the 1950's. Since her death he's been giving away some of her things. His daughters and nieces didn't want the sewing machine. They prefer those "new fangled things". My DH and I went to his home to look at what he had to offer. Of course I brought her home.

I've named her Sweet Jeanne after his wife. Isn't she lovely? She only weighs 7 lbs. I know I lucked out with her but can anyone tell me if she is a feather weight? Hope you can view the pictures.

Oh what a lucky girl I am. And she even came with a case that has a lock and key. It locks, too. Thanks, ladies. I'll make sure she stays sweet.

Definitely a Featherweight. You can look up her serial number here: http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html and learn approximately when she was made. She also looks to be a "Centennial". See how the emblem is blue? This was to celebrate Singer's Centennial Anniversary.

Welcome Sweet Jeanne. You're as pretty as my Nancy.
Isn't it nice to know you're loved and wanted by someone who really knows how to treat a sleek beauty like you?

You are absolutely right. She is a Centennial. She was made in 1951. Thanks for the link above.

Centennial models are considered more "collectible" than some others. The daughters and granddaughters certainly missed out on something special. My daughter has my mom's featherweight and uses it all the time to make dog items (coats, snoods for long ears and bandanas).
