Recently showed my 4th quilt at my local Quilt Guild. I used bright primary batiks fat quarters which I cut into 3 inch strips, each strip varying in length size of 6in., 8in., 10in. and 14in. The yellow I cut into 3x3 inches so that it would only add highlights. After I sewed on the narrow black border and the additional smaller sets of colorful strips, I had a revelation....More Black!!!

I needed more black so decided on a silhouette....after much consideration I settled in on a silhouette of a rose. After drafting/sketching it out, I went to Staples to have it enlarged by 700%. Definitely not big enough.....so, I drew a grid of 1/4 inch squares on the enlarged copy. Next, on a large sheet of freezer paper, I drew a grid of 1 inch squares. Then I penciled by hand the images in each of the 1/4 inch square to each 1 inch square. Wah-Lah! Giant rosebud image. The stem and the leaves I did freehand. I then transferred the large rosebud onto WonderUnder, which I then adhered to the black so that I could fuse it to the quilt top. I then adhered my sketches of the stem and leaves onto the black to fuse to the top. Next, I machine stitched the edges down using a narrow satin stitch.

The first picture is of me showing my quilt at the Guild. The second picture is one of the ones that I took (still learning how to post pictures....UGH). I was attempting to post a picture of that BeckySt, the LAQer that I contacted from this Board to bring her magic to my quilt, had posted at an earlier date before the binding was put on. Thank you again BeckySt for the beauty you brought to my quilt. Here is the link to the quilting pictures that she took: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t226004.html

JUST BEAUTIFUL!! Your creativity with adding the rose just blows my mind........wish that I was just a fraction of that talented and creative...

When I read "rose" and "black", my first thought was "yuk! Then I saw it, and thought, "Wow! That's really nice! I like it!!!"
